I've never been a huge fan of Eminem's, but when an artist has a good song, you've got to give credit. This song has an awesome hook, great guitar riffs, cool piano licks, and clever lyrics. Eminem got a big push to the front of the industry with 8 Mile. He was already well on his way to being an A-lister, but this movie and the accompanying soundtrack definitely gave him the extra shove.
Since the song is mostly based on the main character from the movie, it was written during breaks in filming. The song was recorded in the same fashion. The rapper laid down all three verses in one take using a portable recording studio on the movie's set.
