There are so many covers of this song out there! This says a lot for the tune. If there are that many people that want a shot at your song, you know it's good. I prefer the original to any of the others I've heard, and this is a stellar performance of it on Letterman.
There is no question that this song propelled the singer-songwriter to international fame. It hit the #1 spot on charts all around the world. It also attained the same honors in Time's Top 10 Songs of 2011 and Rolling Stone's Top 50 Songs of 2011. It also received Grammy Awards for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Short Form Video.
