Pickett is set with the perfect backing band here: The Blues Brothers. You can't really miss with this band. Particularly, there's something about Donald Dunn's tone and the way he plays that just makes that walking bass line make you want to move. The song is classic, and this performance is a great one.
The song was written by Pickett and Steve Cropper, who can be seen in this video playing guitar. Cropper has been a writer or co-writer on many, many songs, and lots of them became hits. This song is no different. "Midnight Hour" was a #1 R&B hit for Pickett, and it saw a #26 spot on the Pop charts.
