What a great song about being afraid of feeling the way you do. Sometimes feeling so deeply about something or someone is scary. That's the message I hear McCartney trying to get across here. He spends the whole song saying "maybe", but he's pretty sure about all of it in reality. It's those feelings of doubt that often make us miss out on something that could be great.
The original cut of this song from the album, McCartney, Paul's 1970 solo album, was never released as a single. A live version recorded as a performance with Wings, similar to the one above, was however, and it became a top ten hit in the US. The song was written in 1969, just before the breakup of The Beatles.
