Pennsylvania 6-5000 - Brian Setzer

It's definitely not swing exactly, in the traditional sense, but it does swing. It's more rockabilly than anything else. Setzer is considered one of the forerunners of the "big band revival", and he does perform some big band standards and has a big band. It's really pretty far from the roots of the music it follows, but if it gets a new generation to listen to some classic tunes, who cares?

The song's inspiration comes from the Hotel Pennsylvania in New York City, where it still stands, claiming to have the oldest phone number still in use in NYC. The PE in PE6-5000 stand for rotary dial numbers 7 and 3. The song was originally recorded by the Glenn Miller Big Band. I've posted that below. You can hear parts of the song that sound very similar, but the main groove/fill of the interpretations are way different. Miller's has the laid back big band sound, while Setzers his def more rock oriented.
