Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles

Random Theme: Songs Named After Girls

I'm skipping Mary Ann due to disinterest. I apologize if you were looking forward to this one, but I doubt that anyway. The last song on the list is probably one of the most infamous.

I think the most interesting thing about this song is the recording itself. The way they chose to pan the vocals back and forth from left to right and balanced is interesting. Also, none of The Beatles play any musical instruments on the track. Lenon and Harrison provide harmony vocals, but poor Ringo is left out altogether. A similar setup was used when "Yesterday" was recorded.

The song was created by McCartney while playing piano, as many of his songs were. He originally intended to use the name Daisy Hawkins. Also, Father McKenzie was originally set to be Father McCartney, but Paul was afraid everyone would think the song was about his dad "sitting knitting his socks". Good changes both in my opinion!
