Bad Girlfriend - Theory of a Deadman

"Bad Girlfriend" was Theory's first #1 hit. While it only managed to take a #75 spot on the Hot 100, it scored big on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, and it managed a Top 10 spot at #6 on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart. I think that the crudeness of the content has something to do with it not climbing higher on the charts. It is true that sex sells, but it's a fine line to walk. If you go too far one way or another with it, you can offend people. I think that's probably what happened here. Obviously, the song doesn't offend me; I'm using it in my blog. On the other hand, I can think of some friends/acquaintances of mine that I'm sure wouldn't listen to it more than once.

Still, regardless of content, the song is catchy. It's got a good melody, and the guitar riff his catchy. You can hear influences from group's like Nickelback in the sound, which isn't all that strange considering Chad Kroger discovered and developed the group. At the same time, you can hear influences from more classic rock sounds, even a little country, in their other music. Plus, lead singer Tyler Connolly's vocals are very distinct and fit the music style very well.
