I know there are a lot of people out there that don't care for this group, but I've never been one to follow popular opinion. The album, All American Nightmare, was intended to be "southern rock with a twist." I don't know that they accomplished that goal with all of the music, but I can really hear some of that southern influence in this song. I can imagine this as a country/southern rock hit for sure. If you hand it to the right artist and tamed it down in the right places, it would work on the country Top 40, too.
The content also lends itself to a country single. It's all about coping with life on the road and drinking away your problems, something we've all heard plenty of artists from every genre talk about. The question here is about what happens when the coping mechanism you're using to handle that lifestyle no longer helps you cope. Alcohol is the mechanism many artists use to help themselves cope, but that often leads to other substance abuse problems, too. Hopefully, they realize before it's too late that those substances aren't actually fixing the problems in their lives, only making them forget about them for a short time.
