Anyone that reads this blog probably already knows about my affinity for cover songs. This is a really good one. I like the Jackson 5 original, but Caillat's voice fits this song very well. The beat is good, too, and I like the music arrangement, the way the piano fills in for a lot of the missing instrumentation from the original cut. I've found this and a lot of my recent postings while listening to Pandora radio. I would highly recommend it if you have access.
Originally, this song is the one that kick-started the Jackson 5's career. It was their debut single, and what a debut it was. The song took the #1 spot on the Hot 100, and it climbed to a #2 spot on the UK Singles chart. At the time of the original recording, Michael Jackson, who was a preteen at the time, performed the lead vocal. It's a pretty strange subject matter for someone that age to sing about. I mean, who's really lost a love interest at that point, and even if you had, would you really have the introspective vision to realize your mistake?
