Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) (Journey cover) - Skylit Drive

Originally recorded by Journey, this song was pretty good as Journey goes. When you add that punk feel to it with heavy drums and guitar, it gets even better in my opinion. Plus, the lead singer's voice is crazy strong and in just the right range for this. The band is technically labeled as "post-hardcore", but I hear more of a pop-punk from this style. Plus, it was included on the album Punk Goes Classic Rock. The band is from Lodi, CA and has four albums under their belt. The singer is, contrary to what I first though, a guy. He is a countertenor, which is basically a male vocal part that has the same range as the alto, usually a woman's range. He can definitely belt it.

The song was originally written while Journey was on tour by Jonathan Cain and Steve Perry. The group took the song to #8 on the Hot 100, and due to the popularity of MTV videos at the time, put together a video for the song. It wasn't nearly as successful as the song. Anyone and everyone has called the video one of the worse ones ever, and I have to agree; it's not very good. I've included it below, just for the sake of those that have never seen it. It's just ridiculous, even when you understand that the women was supposed to have dreamt the entire video after falling asleep listening to the song.
