How about a song that talks about how great it is to be alive and be yourself? Then again, when you're Keith Urban, I guess things are pretty good. Being a country star married to a movie star, especially Nicole Kidman, can't be all that bad. Plus, he's got that awesome Aussie accent. It's funny how people's accents don't come through when they sing, though. I have a theory on that, actually. I believe it's because people grow up imitating and singing along with a lot of American singers, particularly in country music. So, when they sing, they're imitating what they've been singing along with for so m any years. I don't really have any evidence to back that up, though...other than what you see here, no studies conducted.
The song actually kicks off talking about things that might bum a person out, no job, no money, holey clothes. Urban's song takes that and turns it on its head, suggesting that those things aren't that bad and that what he does have makes up for it. Maybe we should all learn to appreciate what we do have. The song became is third #1 US country hit, and it reached #30 on the Hot 100, too. Furthermore, THIS, as compared to yesterday's post, is exactly the way to do a live version of a song; you keep the original feel and intensity, add a few twists, and kick things up a notch. Nobody wants to go to a concert and hear songs exactly like they are the album. Concert goers want the same quality performance as the recording and to see something new at the same time. Urban and his band definitely deliver here.
