Here's another one from Paisley's Christmas album that I posted from at the beginning of the month. I always, always thought that this was the better of the two "little-kid-catches-daddy-playing-Santa" themed songs. For whatever reason, "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" just always came off as creepy to me. It's not just the lyrics (even though they are creepy), but one of the more famous versions, the one from the Jackson Five, just sounds creepy. With young Michael's voice singing it... I mean, even the chord progression and keyboard parts are creepy. I digress...
"Santa Looked a Lot Like Daddy" was released by Buck Owens, who co-wrote the song with Don Rich, in 1965. Owens had just had his seventh #1, and this was the signature track off of his album Christmas with Buck Owens. I've included his version below. Paisley's version has quite a bit more country twang and guitar while Owens' version, obviously, has more of a Bakersfield sound. It's a fun holiday song all around, and only 1/3 as creepy as the one mentioned above. Yes, I've checked the numbers.
