The Sound of Silence - Bobaflex

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-1D5N7Bzrk]

Originally written and recorded by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle in the aftermath of the assassination of JFK, this song was initially an acoustic tune. It never really made it as a hit until the duo's producer, Tom Wilson, went in and added drums, bass and electric guitar to the original recording. I like both versions from the original artists, but I find the acoustic version far more haunting, which is what I believe they were going for sound-wise.

Simon wrote the music, and he started on the lyrics himself. He went into his bathroom where he liked to play due to the acoustics offered by the tile, plus the soothing sound of the running tap, and played in the dark. Hence the line "Hello Darkness my old friend/I've come to talk with you again".

This version is stepping right up to the level of "heavy" that I like. It's not screamo or over the top, just rock enough for my taste. That's typically what you get from this group. I posted a performance from Simon and Garfunkle of this song, and you can check it out here.

Bobaflex was originally formed at Marshall University in Huntington, WV by the front-men and brothers, Shaun and Marty McCcy. The brothers are originally from Pt. Pleasant, WV, which is also home to one of the state's more famous pop-culture/mythical sensations: Mothman. The group has had quite a bit of success, performing several large festivals and releasing four studio albums. From this recording, I was most impressed with the band's vocals. They sound eerily like the original at the beginning.
