Theme: Power of Love

Martin had more than one hit based on the theme of love, "That's Amore" and "Everybody Loves Somebody" to name a couple. This song was first recorded by one of its co-writers, Russ Morgan, in 1944. It has been covered by dozens of artists over the years, but Martin's version remains the most popular even today. Recorded in 1965, Martin's take on the tune made it to #24 on the US pop chart and #1 on the easy listening chart. The live performance above is an easier, tamer version of the song than his recorded version.
I picked the above version from YouTube, because it shows Dino at his finest. He absolutely commands the stage, and I for one am a firm believer that he was absolutely one of the coolest guys to ever walk the planet. Don't get me wrong, Sinatra was king, Sammy was great, Crosby was smooth, but Martin defined cool. Always with a drink in his hand and portrayed as a drunk, Martin was very rarely drinking during a performance. He was too much of a perfectionist for that. The same drink he started the evening's show with would be the one with which he'd finish it. All part of the act!
The song sets love up as a very essential part of life, and I tend to agree. There have been a lot of songs that play with this idea, and tomorrow's will be another of them.
