I Told You So - Randy Travis

I was never much of a fan of Travis' growing up, despite the fact that he and Clint Black were often heralded as the top of country music at the time. I found myself drawn more toward vocal groups like Shenandoah and Alabama and honky-tonk artists like Joe Diffie and Dwight Yoakam. As I've gotten older, I've leaned to appreciate Travis' music more and more.

He's not credited with much in the way of writing, but his interpretations of other people's work is fantastic. That's an aspect of music performance that's often overlooked. Having been in a great number of cover bands over the year's, I've found that the way a group or artist interprets a song can make it a great cover or a rotten one. This song was covered recently by Carrie Underwood. Her vocal performance is good, but I don't think it holds the same emotional weight that Travis' does. His voice just brings something extra to the song.
