Erik the Awful - Ray Stevens

Stevens has done a lot with comedy, but, like many comedic talents in the entertainment industry, he's very intelligent and talented in other areas. Stevens was signed to Capital Records at age sixteen. He's mostly known for his original, comedic songs like this one, "The Streak", "The Mississippi Squirrel Revival", and "Santa Claus is Watching You". He has also worked as an accomplished producer and Nashville session musician.

Out of all the hits he's had this is probably my favorite. It runs a close race with "I Saw Elvis in a UFO" and "Freddie Feelgood", the latter of which Stevens "beatboxed" before it was cool...not that I'm saying Stevens was a hipster or anything. I picked "Erik the Awful" for the post, because I think it's genuinely the funniest of the three. The best part of Stevens' music, though, is the music itself. No matter how ridiculous it may seem in lyrics, the songs are always very well put together.
