Redding was an awesome performer and songwriter. He wrote this song as well as many other hits, including "Respect," "I Can't Turn You Loose," and "Hard to Handle." He worked behind the scenes even more than as a performer, not only writing, but also as a talent scout and producer. This tune is a pretty well known one, and it's one of my favorites of his.
