By the River Sainte Marie - Jimmy Forrest

I have my "escapes" from life just like everyone else does. My favorite escape is playing music. I sit down behind my drumkit, and everything else just seems to disappear. I hop on my Harley and find some windy road to follow, and all I can hear is the engine rumble. One of my newest escapes, though, is with cool jazz and a cigar parked out by the lake.

I'm enjoying this escape a lot, because it's calming, but also, it's introducing me to a lot of new music. Last night, Pandora threw this one up in my playlist. Forrest was a very successful musician as both a bandleader and a fill-in player, actually performing with Duke Ellington earlier in his career, as well as Miles Davis shortly after that. He became quite famous for his recording of "Night Train."
