I've been wanting to discover some new music, because I'm notorious for listening to the same artists over and over, and I even take it to a different level by listening to the same songs from those artists over and over. So, I decided to go to the internet for help, and I've only tried Music Roamer so far. As I was searching, I came across Ty Herdon. Now, I really only remember him for his hit "Living in a Moment", and I think that's probably the case for most people. He also had pretty decent hits with "What Mattered Most" and "A Man Holding On", but they didn't perform quite as well as the first one mentioned here. The reason I picked this song is based on the other version I'd heard first.
This song is actually a cover of a Gary Allan song, which was a cover of a George Jones song. which has also been covered by The Grascals and Doug Stone. I'm really only guessing based on his years in the business that it was originally a Jones tune. I'd love to hear it, but I can't find it online anywhere. The first version I ever heard was Allan's. It was released on his third album, Smoke Rings in the Dark, the album that won him serious commercial success, and for good reason. I bought the album for a "penny" through Columbia House back when people bought CDs, but that's another story. It was well worth the hassle of the membership. Smoke Rings is one of my favorite albums of all time. I can listen all the way through and love every song.
This post brings up something I've mentioned several times in the past: interpretation. The way an artist and his producers interpret a song can make it awesome or not so awesome. I don't necessarily like the song all that much when performed by Herndon. Allan's version, however, is a great rendition. I've posted it below, and I think I'll have more from the album from which it comes over the next week or so. Which one do you think is better?
