I Knew You Were Trouble - Taylor Swift

First, I have to say that I would usually not have any reason to post a Swift video. I don't personally have anything against her. I understand that her music isn't all that deep or meaningful, but at the same time, a lot of popular music over the years hasn't been. She writes fun tunes for her fans to jam out to in the car, and I get that.

I think her main problem with her critics is that she writes songs that have content that make them sound like a fifteen-year-old girl wrote them. The fact that she labels herself as a country artist and a lot of her songs are really, really on the border of bubble-gum pop doesn't help. I digress, though. Maybe someday I'll change my mind. After all, I changed my opinion on the other female celebrity in this post very recently.

Olivia Munn, the presenter in the awards video below, got her big break as a host on G4. I had a lot of friends that were really big fans of hers, but I never watched the show or made the same connection. Recently, I started watching HBO's "The Newsroom", and she has a pretty prominent role. Because of her role in the show, I have become a huge fan of hers, and because of the acting prowess she shows there, she's become much more attractive to me. If you're not watching the show, season two starts on July 17, so, you've got plenty of time to catch up on the ten episodes from season one, go check it out.

So, in the video above, Munn is playing her usual quirky part, trying to make a joke of presenting the award to Swift. I'm sure there is some reality to this, but mostly it's a joke. Munn has taken a lot of heat from Swift's fans, but so is the lot of a comedian, especially a female comedian. Swift's fans, mostly tween girls, get really worked up about things. Oh, well!

I picked this song of Swift's, because I believe it shows most of the aspects of her music that cause me to have little respect for it. It's overly angst-filled, and the beginning monologue of this one really shows that off well. A lot of it's not country by any means, and maybe she doesn't claim to be a 100% country artist, but if she's not, why is she accepting the People's Choice Award for Best Country Performer? Finally, we get to see the main content of her songs: her difficulty with men, which I won't comment on any further than to say that almost every song of hers I've ever heard had something to do with a breakup. If these are the things you're looking for in your music, Swift is definitely the way to go.

Just to be clear, I'm not taking shots at Swift. I'm just stating what I hear when her songs come on the radio. If you like her, good for you! I mean, I like "Gangam Style", and that's just as ridiculous of a song as any of Swift's stuff. If nothing else, her stuff is some of the catchiest stuff out there.

One last thing, for those of  you who aren't Swift fans, I've included one last video just in case you haven't seen it. Just to be a good sport about the whole thing, I've also included a video of an artist I do really like that's been given the same treatment. You know, just to be impartial...sort of, and yes, it's possible to find complete videos with this editing, too.
