When I Was Your Man (Burno Mars cover) - Joseph Vincent

A stripped down cover like this can really show you what someone has talent wise. The hardest vocal performances are the ones where you don't have a full band to fill in sound and block out mistakes. When its bare necessities like this, you're putting yourself completely out there without very much to hide behind. I think Vincent does a great job with the song.

This performance also lead me to find his original song, "Blue Skies". He lists Jack Johnson and Jason Mraz as big influences and you can really hear that in the original. The song also makes me think of Los Lonely Boys a lot, too. That bouncy kind feel and flowy guitar sound lend itself to the groove you hear in a lot of those artists' tunes. At the same hand, the lyrics and effects on the vocals kind of remind me a boy band tune from the nineties, a la N'Sync. It's a cool fusion of a lot of different sounds.
