I honestly just wanted to find a couple of popular tunes that were done in a different style than the original. I think I hit the mother load with this one. This tune is one of those that never dies. It played at my cousins' proms in the eighties and nineties, my prom in the 2000's, and it still plays at dances, proms, and clubs everywhere today. It's nuts how long some of these tunes hold their popularity, but with the novelty of this one, it's easy to see why it's still going strong.
The original was, of course, released by Sir Mix-a-lot. It was the second best-selling song in the US in 1992, falling in line right behind "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston. The song's beat was sampled from the Channel One song, "Technicolor". It is far and away the song that people associate with Mix-a-lot. Coulton, a singer-songwriter from Brooklyn, is known for his songs about geek culture.
