Today, the first Monday in September, we celebrate the work and dedication that it has taken to build the country in which we live. The day was originally brought to the forefront by support from the Central Labor Union and the Knights of Labor. It was initially celebrated on May 4,1886, changing in 1887 to the current September day we all know and being declared an official holiday by Grover Cleveland that year.
What better way to celebrate it with song than with a song titled "Hard Workin' Man". I've always loved this song, particularly the guitar riff that opens the tune. I've heard lots of covers, but I've never heard anyone duplicate that sound, tone, and rhythm quite to the perfection of the recording. I think it's because it's always one guitarist taking it on when I'm pretty sure there are two guitar tracks covering that opening. The song climbed all the way to #4 on the country charts in 1993.
