Valiant & Valiant - Alan Silvestri

October Theme: Disney

Through some research online, I recently learned that Disney owns lots of different entities. Now, you may be thinking, "duh", but I knew this already. What I didn't know was the extent to which the Walt Disney ownership arm reaches. Disney owns, ABC, ESPN, Marvel, and most recently, Lucasfilm, as well as a slew of other companies. The last two have in in the news pretty recently, being fairly recent purchases.

One of the earlier companies Disney started outside of it's own name was Touchstone Pictures. Touchstone is responsible for classic movies like Good Morning, Vietnam, What About Bob?, 10 Things I Hate About You, and O Brother, Where Art Thou? The company was created so that Disney could reach out to a wider audience demographic.

One of the earlier films the company produced was Who Framed Roger Rabbit? This is a classic animated/live action film that exists outside of Disney's usual fair. It's obviously not the type of movie you'd expect to see in the Disney Animated Classics lineup. However, it's still Disney company money that funded it and paid Mr. Silvestri's check.

Silvestri is responisble for lots of classic movie soundtracks and stands with the greats like John Williams and Hans Zimmer for motion picture scores. Some of his best-known work is from a classic everyone should know, Back to the Future. "Valiant & Valiant" is an awesome sort of jazz number that fit perfectly in the mix of the time period for Roger Rabbit.
