Stuck in the Middle - Jeff Healy

The original cut of this song by Stealers Wheel is OK, but I just like the groove that Healy's band lays down a lot better than the original. The vocals on the original are just a little better, but the song over all translates better with this groove. I really just like Healy's sound, and it's his take on the song that I always try and capture when I cover this tune.

Inspired by a real life scenario, the song was written by Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan, original members of the group. The idea came to the two as they sat at a restaurant with their label reps on one side and their producers on the other, both arguing across the musicians. The style for the song was influenced by another source entirely. The vocal style and paranoid lyrics were intended to be a parody of Bob Dylan's typical sound. The problem came when Rafferty mimicked Dylan so well that many people thought it was Dylan singing.  Below, you will find the original version.
