I remember this song on the radio when I was a kid, and mostly, I remember those accents. I think that's really what made this song as big of a hit as it was. Don't get me wrong, it's a good song regardless, but the accents definitely helped make it memorable. A scene from How I Met Your Mother recently revitalized my interest in the song.
The song had seen some popularity in other parts of the world. It had already claimed the #11 and #1 spots in Australia and the UK, respectively. When it was included in the film Benny & Joon, it began its climb up the US charts stopping at #3.
