Enter Sandman (Metallica Cover) - Apocalyptica

This is already a good song for the haunting season, but I can't imagine a scarier image than headbanging cellists. The members of Apocalyptica are all classically trained cellists...and a drummer. The group was initially just a Metallica tribute act, but grew from there after their initial success. The band originated in Sweden where its members attended the Sibelius Academy.

The song was originally recorded by Metallica for the 1991, self-titled album. The tune began to take shape after lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist John Newsted submitted tapes and ideas for songs to drummer Lars Ulrich and rhythm guitarist James Hetfield, the main process for songwriting within the group. Ulrich and Hetfield would write music together, with Hetfield usually taking on lyrical duties. Specifically, it grew from a guitar riff created by Kirk Hammett. The song was the first to be written for the album and one of the last to have lyrics. The song contains several tracks for the rhythm guitar and drums, because the band wanted to create a "wall of sound" to simulate a live concert experience. Take a listen to the original track below and see if you think they captured that sound. They spent ten days mastering and mixing the cut after it was all recorded, so, hopefully you'll find it worth their efforts. A lot of people did, because the song saw a #4 spot on the Hot Single Sales chart and a #16 on the Hot 100.
