Monster Mash - Bobby Pickett

This song was written because Pickett did a great Boris Karloff impression. Pickett was trying to make it as an actor, but he was singing at night. During one performance, he used his Karloff impersonation to perform The Diamonds' "Little Darlin." It went over so well that another member of the band convinced him to do more with the impersonation. Sometimes, when a, uh, particular talent like this is discovered, it takes some convincing to persuade the person into pursuing it. The problem is that the artist wants to be taken seriously, and basing your career around singing like Boris Karloff probably isn't the best way to gain that seriousness.

After the convincing had taken place, together, the two wrote what would become a Billboard #1 hit and a Halloween staple for years to come. It's just a silly song about funny monsters getting together to dance, but man is it catchy. Growing up, I didn't like this song at all. I could hardly stand to hear it played, but time changes your opinions on some things. Maybe I just got too caught up on not wanting to be silly.
