You can find this (and most of the other songs from the film) online, but there has never been an official soundtrack for the film released. This tune was written specifically for the film, obviously, and it, along with the accompanying animated opening sequence, pretty much set the tone for the rest of the movie, and they do so very well. It captures that goofy, crazy, completely unbelievable comedy that Chevy Chase and the rest of the cast present throughout the movie.
I think that the reason so many people connect with Christmas Vacation is because, as unrealistic as the comedy is, it's only an exaggerated version of reality. We all have the crazy relative(s) that are represented by Eddie. We all know they're will be crazy gifts brought by older relatives, even if they're not really as strange as a cat wrapped up in a box. Everyone has that one family member that goes way overboard with decorations, but they usually don't drain the local power grid. It's just taking everyone's regular Christmas experiences and putting them under a comedic microscope.
