There are definitely some good tunes on this list. It ranges from awful with The Black Eyed Peas' "Dirty Bit" and Jeremih's "Down on Me" to radio pop catchy with Hot Chelle Rae's "Tonight Tonight" and Gaga's "Born This Way" to strangely suffer-able with Enrique Iglesias's "Tonight (I'm F**kin' You)" to stuff I've honestly never even heard with Lupe Fiasco's "The Show Goes On" to some pretty good stuff with Bruno Mars's "The Lazy Song" and Pink's "F**kin' Perfect" to really good tunes with Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" and Cee Lo Green's "Forget You." That was a really long sentence, maybe the longest I've ever written. I hope it's actually a complete sentence. I digress...
It really just just goes to show what a strange, eclectic range of music we're listening to as a culture. I'm not a fan of a lot of the stuff on the list, but I like that there's the variety out there for people to choose from. Given, most of the songs are dance tunes that teens are listening to more than anything, and the list is filled with rappers and hip-hop artists, but that doesn't mean nearly as much as something else in my opinion.
Even though the number two song was a club anthem by a group named after an internet and text acronym, the number one song was just that: a real song. I've already posted Adele's huge hit earlier in my blog. The fact is as much as we complain about how radio has been taken over by drum machines and synth, when a good song with good vocals, good music, and a good message, plus a good hook comes along, the masses still take notice. "Rolling in the Deep" spent more time on the top of the charts this year than any other song. That tells me that some people are still listening to hear real music.
