I Feel Lucky - Mary Chapin Carpenter

Is it boogie-woogie or honky-tonk or country...or some cross breed of the three? It's one of those strange songs that doesn't quite sit squarely in the label of one genre. My favorite thing about this song: the piano solo. It's so simple, but it's structured so well and fits right where it's supposed to in the feel of the song. The pianist in the video above takes a little liberty with it, but he stays true to the the original. It's just the same lick repeated with a few ghost notes here and there, but it rounds out the song nicely.

I also remember seeing an interview as a kid with Lyle Lovett. The interviewer was asking about his name being used in the song with Dwight Yokam's. Apparently, that was kind of a big deal, but they both just laughed it off on different occasions. I was too young to really remember the context and everything, but it stands out in my mind regardless. The song was a #4 hit for Carpenter in 1992.
