Now That's Country - Marty Stuart

I couldn't decide which of Stuart's songs I liked better. I started with a mental list of four or five, but I eventually narrowed it to this one and "Little Things." I ultimately went with this one, because I think the ideals behind it and the way it describes what country is are very important ones. Tomorrow's post will go right along with this theme, and I've recently started putting my thoughts together on paper about what it means to be country. You can look for that soon on one of my other blogs.

As for the song itself, I love that blues shuffle feel mixed with country twang. I miss this time in country music when there was way more attention to detail in the song. You can actually hear every instrument whether you really notice it or not. Today, a lot of what's going on is covered up by heavy guitar distortion...something else, it seems like a requirement to mention Hank or George or Willie in your songs, but that topic could fill another entire blog, so, I digress.

You can hear in this song how everything from the drums to the guitar to the bass all weave in and around one another. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against the Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Justin Moore country generation, but I do miss the times when it seemed to be more about the music.
