Your Love - The Outfield

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N1iwQxiHrs]

So, this is about as cheesy as the eighties ever got, but it's a catchy song nonetheless. I don't have any factoids or  interesting stories about this one. You can just enjoy the song for what it is. I would love to see this one end up on a "Punk Goes..." album. It could easily slide right into that pop-punk vein. I've also included a good acoustic cover I found while searching YouTube.

The Outfield is a British band, and this has been their biggest hit to date, but not in their native country. The song climbed all the way to #6 on the US Hot 100, but it didn't perform nearly as well across the pond. Maybe it's because the Brits are proper enough not to sing songs about their affairs. I mean, the protagonist in the song is trying to convince a woman to spend the night with him because his girlfriend, Josie, is "on a vacation far away". Not that British people are above affairs, maybe just songs about them...maybe not...

UPDATE: June 24, 2014

I found this version of the song recently, and because of my love of recordings that are as raw as you can possibly make them, I had to share it. The singer also reminds me a lot of John Popper at different moments in the video.

Update: June 25, 2016

It's odd that this update comes at the same time of year as the most recent one. In this post, I mentioned that this would be a great pop-punk cover. In light of that, I give you this cover, which I'm not sure how I didn't know existed.
