Black Betty - Ram Jam

Random Theme: Songs Named After Girls
Extended from Brian's List

This song is credited to  Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter. I seriously doubt that he (or whoever the original concept belongs to) imagined five white dudes playing this on their electric guitars. It's a traditional African-American work song. Black Betty refers to a nickname that was often given to a number of different things, including a bottle of whiskey or a whip. I wonder if the guys in the band new anything about the song when they recorded this version. So, with this meaning in mind, the song isn't about a girl, but it does have a woman's name in the title. I'll take that as still fitting with my current theme.

The song has some strange pieces to it. The parts that have lyrical content are pretty clear in the timing, but when the instrumental part that includes the drum solo, I can't tell yo what the time signature is, and the guy in the video is obviously not playing the same thing that's in the recording, so, maybe he couldn't tell you either.
