For the longest time, the name Chris Ledoux didn't mean anything more to me than the fact that Garth Brooks name dropped him in a song. He's had a much bigger impact on music than that, though. He's a singer-songwriter that has recorded 36 studio albums. He's released several of those albums on his own, and one of them went gold. He has also been nominated for a Grammy Award and the ACM Music Pioneer Award. This particular song only made it to #18 on the charts, but it's one of my favorites of his. On top of a pretty illustrious music career, he's also a world-class rodeo star.
When I was a kid, I always had an image of the scenario described in the song coming to life. My dad encouraged the idea, too, often talking about how we needed to start a music venue. My uncle owned a large farm, and by the time I was around, it was never used for farming. My dad would often talk about how it should be turned in to a big campground with a stage where music events and festivals could be held. It's still my intention to some day own a music venue, but as of now, it's just a dream.
