Cough Syrup - Young the Giant

 [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAsTlnjvetI]

Originally formed under the name The Jakes, Young the Giant released this song under two band names. The song was first released on one of the band's EPs when they were still known by their first moniker. It was later released as a single under the group's current name. The song just barely broke onto the Hot 100 chart during its second release, topping out at #95. It did fare better on the Alternative Songs and Rock Songs charts, though, coming in at #3 and #9, respectively.

The song is basically about wanting to break out of the normalcy of American suburbia. Cough syrup is symbolic of the kind of cultural mentality of what you're "supposed" to do when you grow up in that suburban environment. The song is a sort of cry for help to break free of that stereotyping and those expectations. It's got a catchy hook, and even though it's form is pretty simple, some points should go to having a pretty creative video.
