This style of song is usually seen in movies during the "sexy club singer" portion of the movie. Think Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit or Tina Carlisle (Cameron Diaz) in The Mask. Music can evoke all kinds of emotions, and the emotions related to human sexuality are no exception. Jazz has the ability to bring out those emotions more so than other styles in my opinion, and it may be simply because that's how our culture has associated the two together.
Lee's voice feeds right into that notion, and the song's lyrics don't hurt the cause any either. Lee was a singer in The Benny Goodman Orchestra before taking off on her own. She also voiced the Siamese cats in Lady and the Tramp. A wonderful voice nonetheless. The song was originally written by Eddie Cooley and Otis Blackwell and recorded by Little Willie John. Lee's version had some altered lyrics that were written by Lee.
