Music has such a control over the emotions we feel. You can read an article at cracked.com HERE that explains quite a bit of the idea. Given, Cracked isn't the most educational source, but it's usually pretty factual and lists references. Anyway, this song goes a long way to proving that. Anything you put this song up as background music for instantly becomes slightly more comical. You can see what I mean by watching the video below. It's one of the early scenes in the John Cusack movie, 2012. It's intended to be their daring escape of the insane earthquake that rocks the coast, but with this song behind it, well, you'll see.

In 1963, this song made it to #35 on the Billboard Charts. That's after it was recorded a second time by Randolph for a second record label. It also became very popular in its multiple uses on the Benny Hill show, being played behind wacky comedy routines. Chet Atkins did a cover of the song called "Yakety Axe", showcasing his guitar talents. It's the very bottom video below. It doesn't quite have the same effect for me as when played on the sax. Bill Haley and his Comets also recorded the song on three different occasions.
The song actually has a lot of different melodies stuck in it throughout. The most recognizable one for me is "Entrance of the Gladiators". It's most recognized as circus music today, but that wasn't it's originally intended purpose, either.
