I'm feeling pretty mindless right now, and this song kind of speaks for itself, keeping me from having to do a lot of digging about its meaning. It's all about getting even and setting people straight. It's kind of funny that the lyrics are what they are, because people always want to dance to it at clubs and dances I DJ. It's definitely a groove that moves your feet. Sometimes we don't think about what a song's message is.
The song was a part of DMX's third album, ...And Then There Was X. "Party Up" has been the artists highest charting and most commercially successful release to date. It's also made several appearances in other media, including Gone in 60 Seconds, Coyote Ugly, Malcolm in the Middle, King of Queens, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004. Most of these placements came after the song's initial release, so, you can assume the song garnered its initial popularity all on its own.
