I don't really remember if this was in the movie in its original form, but this is another one that I was reminded of by The Five Year Engagement. In the movie, one of the characters makes up new words for a karaoke version of the song that recounts all of the main character's past relationships. He makes a slideshow to go with it and shows it while singing his version of the song at the engagement party.
The basic premise of the song is Joel's rebuttal to all the flack the Baby Boomer generation gets. "The fire", being the conflict and social turmoil, wasn't started by them; it's as old as the world. The song shoots through all kinds of references to major events between the year of Joel's birth, 1949, and the songs release, 1989.
