I had completely forgotten about this song until I was looking through my music folders the other day. It's such a great song about growing up a certain way and having to learn to conform to a different life. The form of the song is so simple, but so great. It reminds me a lot of being a kid in the middle of nowhere.
I remember kids at school talking about riding their bikes together all over town. They'd go down to the gas station for drinks or ride over to the school playground. I didn't have that option. It's just such a different life living in town, even a small one, compared to living in the country. I'm living in town now, and I can tell you for sure that it's a different experience.
This song was originally performed by Don Williams, and his version is great. There's really not a lot of differences from Turner's version. Williams and Turner both have such smooth voices, and they fit with the style of the song well. Released in 1991 by Williams, the song was a #7 hit on the Hot Country Songs chart.
