This is a song that has become synonymous with sporting events. It's played at basketball games over the PA system from high school all the way to the NBA. Hundreds of marching bands across the country have this song in their repertoire and play it regularly in the stands. The drum beat is infectious. The call and response "hey" chorus is perfect for crowd interaction. The simple, yet ear-wormy main riff is a lot of fun. In the form of a rock song from Glitter, "Rock and Roll Part 2" became a #7 hit in the US.

The songs counterpart, "Rock and Roll Part 1," is a bit more of a traditional rock anthem. The song's lyrics (yes, lyrics in part 1) reflect on the genre of rock and roll up to the point of eighties glam rock, of which Glitter was a part, proven in the video below. The same melody exists in both parts, but it was "Part 2" that really hit a home run with fans and the audience. Glitter knew it as well as anyone else, combining both parts for his stage performances of the songs.
