If there's some clever meaning to this song, I'm missing it. I hear a few interesting lines here and there: a girl that uses a "machete to cut through red tape" and "fingernails that shine like justice". That's pretty clever. I don't get the whole song, though. It is catchy. I really like the video below. It's the official music video, but I didn't want to use it above, because, you miss a lot of the song due to the comments from the listeners.
After a little research, I did find a meaning. The song is symbolic of American culture, specifically the romantic aspect. Songwriter and frontman for the group, John McCrea, said, that it's about "prosperity and depression" and how strange the human mating ritual is at times. I think I could agree with that.
