Country Boy - Ricky Skaggs

This song made it to #1 on the Country Billboard Charts. It only stayed there for one week, but it spent thirteen weeks on the charts in total. Skaggs has written a lot of his own music, but this songs was actually written by some other musicians. Tony Colton, Albert Lee and Ray Smith co-wrote the song.

They were all members of the British rock group Heads, Hands & Feet. Lee has done lots of guitar work and writing for many people in the country industry. This was the first Skaggs tune I heard that caught my attention as a kid. It speaks to a lot of people from the country that have had to adopt a different lifestyle in the city for one reason or another.

This is one of those songs that gets performed almost exactly the same way every time it's performed. All the way down to the solos, it's almost note-for-note the same as the studio recording. I like the the performers can copy it so closely, but it also takes away from the live performance feel of the song.
