Workin' Man's PhD - Aaron Tippin

Country has long been the genre that praises the working man. There have been many songs along the way that share that thought right down to the title, "Hard Workin' Man" by Brooks & Dunn and "Workin' Man Blues" by Merle Haggard, just to name a couple. Tippin's song is a little more clever, and that's one of my favorite aspects of it. The song honestly reminds me of my dad a lot. He would be up at 4:30 AM to get ready for work. He had to be there at 6:00 AM, and we lived a good thirty minutes away. The line "a long, hard day sure ain't much fun, but you gotta get it started if you wanna get it done" takes me back to that thought all the time.

Tippin had a hand in writing the song, along with co-writers Bobby Boyd and Philip Douglas. It was the first single from Call of the Wild, and it topped out at #7 in the US. It's got that solid nineties country sound I grew up listening to as a kid, and that was the fist music style I fell in love with. As a drummer, the fill right after the opening riff of this tune really called to me, too.
