Good Time - Alan Jackson

Country Doesn't Mean Sad

This is one of Jackson's more recent successes, though he has had plenty over the years. This one is a song that absolutely defies the idea of all country music being sad and contemplative. This one is about, well, having a good time. It's a bouncy shuffle groove that I love in general and that Jackson does very well. It's honky-tonk country at its finest. That bass guitar bounce just seals the deal.

Jackson writes a lot of his own music and this one is no different. In fact, he wrote every track off the the album on which this song appears. Jackson knows people don't always want to think about the music to which they're listening. Sometimes they just want to have fun...and this is coming from a man who wrote an extremely emotional song about the attacks on 9/11. He has covered both ends of the emotional spectrum sevearl times over. When asked about the songs on the album named after this title track, he was quoted as saying, "I've just always written things simpler...just things that I like and my fans still like... [Fans] would just rather have something that makes their day easier."
