When you can fill a stadium that big with just a three piece band, with both people and sound, you've got something going on. Rush pushes the limit of "user friendly" music, bordering on too complicated for the average person to idly hang out and listen. They're not quite to the level of say, Dream Theater, but they're close. I think what really holds people's interest to Rush despite the fact that a lot of their music is so out there is the melody. Geddy Lee's voice singing melodies that are easy to remember and catchy makes up for the music that's pretty over the top at times.
The song stems from drummer Neil Peart's experiences dealing with fame. Lee explained in a 1988 interview that Peart was having a hard time "coming to grips with fame." The idea of autograph seekers and people demanding much of his time was very new to him. He had a hard time dealing with the transition, and the song reflects those feelings.
