I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues - Elton John

This was one of John's most radio played songs during the eighties, and it's easy to see why. It's catchy, and it's quite a bit different from a lot of his other music. His take on the 12/8 time signature, a typical blues format, that makes it more pop is interesting. The fact that the song also has "blues" in the title doesn't hurt. John wrote the music for the song, but it was Bernie Taupin and Davey Johnstone that wrote the lyrics. Both are long time collaborators with Sir Elton. Taupin has written several song with John over the years. The original track recording also featured another great pianist and performer on another instrument. Stevie Wonder guested on the song, playing the harmonica.
