Dream On (Aerosmith Cover) - Neil Patrick Harris & Matthew Morrison

The original cut of this song is amazing, but I can't ever seem to pass up the chance to include NPH in my blog. There are so many stories in the celebrity world of stars falling from fame and out of the public eye that it's nice to see a resurgence of a talented performer. With the exception of Robert Downey Jr., who not only climbed out of the fallen celebrity pit but also conquered addiction problems in the process, NPH has one of the best re-emergence stories in Hollywood. NPH seriously appears everywhere. He's done voice over work as Nightwing and Spider-Man, starred in a (second) hit TV show, hosted almost every major awards show you can name, and guested or starred in viral internet videos, movies, and TV shows. The simple fact that I can refer to him as NPH, never actually saying his name, and most people know who I'm talking about says something.

He and Morrison do a great job on this abridged version of the classic rock anthem. Both provide solid vocal performances, but it's the crazy falsetto at the end that sells it. I'm sure Steven Tyler would be proud...or maybe he doesn't care as long as the royalties from Glee's cover of the song keep rolling in to his bank account. It's been paying the bills for a long time, since 1973 in fact. It was the band's first major hit, first climbing the charts in the band's hometown (Boston) and later making a #6 appearance on the Hot 100.
