This is not Withers's only song that deals with questioning emotional motives. "Use Me" is another great example of that theme in his music, and the two songs are almost a call and response or a prequel/sequel combo. In this song he's realizing that his woman might have another man. In "Use Me," he's decided to let a woman use him, despite the advice of his friends and family. The two almost go together.
The song was released on Withers's 1972, Still Bill. It was his second album, which also contained the above-mentioned "Use Me" and the ever popular "Lean on Me." It was a #1 soul album and a #4 pop album on the respective Billboard charts.
